Brett Rushbrook - Industrial Design

I think a large amount of the class found it hard to come to terms with the concept of a Product Service System to begin with, let alone the design side of the project. But after we did research, researched current examples of Product Service Systems and read and discussed What’s mine is yours: the rise of collaborative consumption, we really came to grips and understood the project, and the direction that we were heading.

The notion of the PSS appeals to a variety of aspects of Design. The PSS can bring about not only a product aesthetic design, but also a whole system and product idea and creation, all from the idea of the PSS. The PSS is a solution to a large amount of not only design problems and issue, but also to the large amount of social and environmental issues relating to the Design industry at the current time.

The PSS is a very new and Interesting notion, and I am very grateful to have been introduced to it. A PSS is a solution to a large amount of Environmental issues (Decreasing Raw Material use, Waste, Rubbish/Pollution, Carbon Emmisions ETC) and also creates a Social Network where similar people can relate and connect.

I am thankful for this project, and I would enjoy working with a possible PSS in the future. I can use all my MEPSS information, Research techniques/information, Group work Design skills I have developed, and also the Environmental responsibility and care I have come to understand and appreciate during this Project. Furthermore, i now understand the importance of not only the product, but also the need for the whole external system connecting the product.
